Labour has shifted its language on the controversial measure to tackle bovine TB
Badgers will continue to be killed under a Labour government despite the party pledging to end the controversial cull of the animals to combat disease in cattle.
Labour has since been unable to say when the cull will end and admitted it would not stop the killing of badgers immediately on taking office, if the party wins theunderstands a Labour government will not interfere with existing contracts to carry out culling, and wants to roll out vaccination, herd management, and biosecurity programmes as it seeks to stop the killing of badgers.
Speaking in a Q&A with farmers during a campaign visit to north Devon, the Prime Minister said: “The success of the badger culls where we’ve done them have brought the incidence rates down by just over 50%, so that shows that that plan is working. She went on: “We urge all parties, including Labour, to commit to the scale of investment and change in policies and practices required to restore nature now.”
