An office block was evacuated as nearby residents were reportedly told to remain indoors
A 'bag of screws' sparked a huge office evacuation near the Lowry Hotel today, the Manchester Evening News understands.
Emergency services swarmed Chapel Street, close to Manchester city centre and evacuated Trinity Bridge House over concerns about a package. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a huge emergency services presence near the hotel on Dearmans Place. Pictures also showed police officers and fire crews on Chapel Street, with the road shut off from around 10.45am.The M.E.N now understands the alarm was raised over a bag of screws, which was later deemed to be safe after inspection.
There was a large response by both Greater Manchester Police and the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, with a nearby office block, Trinity Bridge House, temporarily evacuated. Eyewitnesses also reported seeing bomb disposal units at the scene as residents living inside Chapel Wharf were reportedly told to stay inside the building.
