Francesco Bagnaia has expressed uncertainty regarding Ducati's 2025 MotoGP engine, citing concerns about its impact on braking performance. During the recent Sepang test, Bagnaia, the two-time MotoGP champion, was evaluating a new motor developed by Ducati. While he lauded the increased power and smoother power delivery, which enhanced acceleration and top speed, he pointed out that braking remained a significant area of concern.
The GP25 engine, despite its impressive performance in straight-line speed and acceleration, struggles to match the braking prowess of its championship-winning predecessor, the GP24. This deficiency compromises the bike's corner entry, a crucial element in MotoGP races. Bagnaia emphasized the criticality of getting the engine right before the season's commencement due to the two-year development freeze that prohibits any engine modifications once homologated.Bagnaia acknowledged the progress made in closing the gap in braking performance but remained hesitant about fully replicating the GP24's exceptional braking capabilities. He stated that while the GP25 is already fast and excels on straights and acceleration, the GP24's braking performance was exceptional, making it difficult to match. He explained that the bikes are accelerating out of corners, but the gain from improved acceleration is slightly offset by the time lost due to inferior braking. Ducati's engineers now face the challenge of balancing these factors to create a competitive package for the upcoming season
