Experts advise against pouring Baileys and similar cream liqueurs down the sink as they can solidify in pipes causing blockages.
Every year experts warn about one common household mistake which can be easily avoided. A festival tipple is common for families and one drink that makes an appearance over Christmas is Baileys. Pouring certain drinks down the sink when we are finished with them comes natural to us but Baileys and similar cream liquids should be avoided. They can cause serious plumbing problems. Trade pros at MyBuilder.com explained the damage this could have on your pipes.
They said: 'Cream liqueur drinks, such as the popular Christmas favourite, Baileys, can be a problem for your plumbing at Christmas. 'While it may be delicious to drink, it doesn't keep for long and often ends up down the sink. However, this sort of beverage should never be disposed of in this way.' It's typically not something that can be consumed in large quantities and it doesn't last very long. Once opened, it will spoil and it's recommended that the drink is best consumed within six months. The experts warned cream liqueurs have a large fat content and fall into the category of FOG (Fats, Oils, and Greases). These can sticks to pipes and can cause blockages. They added It could be a 'costly mistake' having to call a plumber. Emergency callouts can potentially be 'four times as expensive' than usual rates. To dispose of Baileys, you should seal the remaining Baileys in a container. After that you should let the fat cool then put the container in your general waste bin
