Two new spots in front of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office in Bay Minette offer the added comfort of knowing cameras are always watching. These are in front of the new administrative offices on North Hoyle Avenue.
) - The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office has set up two new Safe Exchange Zones in Bay Minette. The exchange spots are near the new administrative offices and under 24-hour video surveillance. Law enforcement agencies across Baldwin County have been offering these safe zones for several years.
The Safe Trade Zone in front of the Fairhope Police Department has been there several years and it is used regularly for transactions and child custody exchanges. “We have never had a problem here, so we consider it to be a safe location for people to come and make that exchange,” Ardis said. “Anytime you meet with a stranger, you’re more than likely going…one of the two parties is going to be bringing cash for the swap and this is almost always a complete stranger and there’s naturally going to be some anxiety for one or both parties involved in that transaction.
“It’s a safe place for people to exchange, you know their children if it’s a custody situation or to meet up for Marketplace because it’s always under surveillance and it’s kind of just a general space so if something does feel uneasy, you have other people around,” Bourg said.
