Some of the dresses struggled to fit through the doorways of the chosen catwalk venue, bumping into members of the FROW, squeezing through as if nothing was wrong. And yet, for a high-end fashion brand that plans their launches months in advance, down to the smallest luxury detail, this was surely not an accident.
So what does it mean? Probably the only person who can truly answer this question is Demna himself. Since his employment as creative director in 2015, succeeding designer Alexander Wang, Balenciaga has gotten, well, funnier. In 2017, the label launched a handbag almost identical to the 99p blue Ikea shopping bag, yours for only $2000 . Demna told the press that the inspiration came from his university years when he used to shop at the Swedish flat-pack store. Hilariously, he admits that Balenciaga also made a yellow version of the bag because he desperately wanted to buy one as a student.Then things started to get even sillier.
