Inayat Shah was stabbed 55 times at a guest house after going to the aid of a fellow stabbing victim.
A man is to serve at least 20 years in prison for the murder of the manager of a County Antrim B&B that housed homeless people.
He was attacked after going to the aid of another resident who had been stabbed in the chest by Lenaghan.Lenaghan pleaded guilty to murder last month.During February's plea hearing, Belfast Crown Court was told Mr Shah was at home at the time, receiving a visit from his 16-year old granddaughter. The lawyer said the "screams and groans" of Mr Shah fell silent "shortly before the defendant walked away from the mutilated and lifeless body".Lenaghan was also jailed for stabbing the other victim in the chest and making a threat to kill a third man on that day.After Friday's hearing Det Insp Jennifer Rea from the Police Service of Northern Ireland addressed reporters outside the court.
"Mr Lenaghan's actions were both horrific and savage. This was an unprovoked attack and one which took the life of an innocent man," she said.
