A 32-year-old man has been arrested following the incident at a flats complex in the Drumtara area.
A fire in Ballymena, County Antrim, which resulted in three residents being trapped in their flats due to the amount of smoke, is being treated as arson with intent to endanger life.
A 32-year-old man was located by police nearby and was arrested on suspicion of threats to damage property, attempted burglary and arson endangering life with intent.At about 23:10 GMT on Wednesday, police received a report of a burglary at a shop in Wellington Street. A second report was received shortly before midnight "of a rustling sound" in the hallway of a flat in the Drumtara area.
