Efforts are underway to remove the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Officials said reopening the Port of Baltimore is the top priority.
Maryland Gov. Wes Moore called on state lawmakers Friday to pass a budget and emergency legislation within the next 10 days so that the state can move forward with clearing debris and, eventually, reconstructing the Francis Scott Key Bridge. “To the members of the Maryland General Assembly, we know this: We are 10 days away from the conclusion of this legislative session, and there is a lot of work to do,” Moore said. The Maryland General Assembly must pass a budget by April 8.
Moore said he introduced a “responsible budget” which invested in housing, child care, environmental protection and transportation. He urged Democratic leaders from both chambers to come together and find a middle ground. “Now it is vital that the House and the Senate find compromise as soon as possible, pass the budget, and provide certainty at this challenging and uncertain time,” he said.
