EXCLUSIVE: The real life Bank of Dave, Dave Fishwick, spoke to us about what still drives him to get up and work in the morning and why he will one day give away most of his fortune to society
Self-made millionaire Dave Fishwick made his money selling minibuses before setting up his own community bank after the 2008 financial crisis. Two years ago, he captured the hearts of the nation when Netflix released the Bank of Dave biopic where he was played by James Bond star Rory Kinnear.
But given the success, we asked the Burnley-based businessman why he wasn’t spending his days enjoying the fruits of his labour. “Myself and Nicky and my family have all the money we need. We are going to give 90% plus of it away. I am a big believer in letting children have enough to do anything but not too much to do nothing.”
“If you live in a big house, you’ve got the cars, aircraft, and I’ve been in every direction you could possibly think about in the world and most of the time it is working.
