Court told defendant had “appalling” criminal record with 308 convictions - 213 of which were for road traffic offences
A banned driver was jailed for eight months on Friday for notching up his 73rd conviction for driving whilst disqualified.
The defendant had pleaded guilty earlier this week to driving whilst disqualified, having no insurance and driving with excess alcohol on his breath.Prosecution barrister David McClean told Downpatrick Crown Court, sitting in Belfast, that at 4.40 pm on Thursday, June 16 this year, police on patrol on the Sydenham bypass stopped the defendant driving a Vauxhall Astra car.
“At the police station officers smelt alcohol on his breath and he told police: ‘I have been up drinking all night’.” Judge Geoffrey Miller KC said Orr was before the court with an “appalling” criminal record with 308 convictions - 213 were for road traffic offences. He revealed the defendant had 72 previous convictions for driving whilst disqualified and 27 entries for drink driving.
