A Greater Manchester Barclays branch has been taped off by police after its windows have been smashed and walls daubed with red paint.
The high street bank has become a repeat target for pro-Palestine protesters, including store fronts in central London, Brighton and other parts of Greater Manchester. The scenes in Bolton come just a few days after two Manchester city centre branches were covered in paint overnight. Campaign group Palestine Action claimed responsibility after the Barclays branches on Market Street and Mosley Street, and a BNY Mellow office in Piccadilly Gardens, in were vandalised.
Those Manchester branches also saw their glass windows smashed and red paint thrown over the buildings - however it has not yet been confirmed if the Manchester and Bolton incidents are linked. A spokesperson for Barclays said: “We provide vital financial services to US, UK and European public companies that supply defence products to NATO and its allies. Barclays does not directly invest in these companies. The defence sector is fundamental to our national security and the UK government has been clear that supporting defence companies is compatible with ESG considerations. Decisions on the implementation of arms embargos to other nations are the job of respective elected governments.
