A Barclays customer expressed anger and frustration regarding the bank's Tech Pack service after facing unexpected and costly repair charges. The customer questioned the value of the monthly subscription and felt trapped due to the loss of their overdraft facility upon cancellation.
A Barclays customer expressed dissatisfaction with the bank after incurring additional charges beyond their standard Tech Pack subscription. The customer criticized the Tech Pack , stating:'Your Tech Pack is a rip-off. £49 to repair an old iPhone? 'What is it that I've been giving you money every month since November 2009 for?' The Tech Pack , available to certain current account holders, provides protection for mobile devices, covering repairs or theft. It costs £14.
50 per month and covers up to four devices, each priced at £1,500 or less. However, users may face extra fees. Barclays responded, explaining the rules and providing a link to their webpage detailing supplemental costs. Customers are entitled to four claims per year for a mobile device, encompassing repair for accidental damage or loss/theft. For customers who have held the Tech Pack for over a year, excess fees include £29 for screen repairs and £49 for other repairs. There are also fees of £99 if a device is beyond repair, and £149 if it's lost or stolen, provided the device is replaced or a cash settlement is made. Barclays advised the customer to contact them through phone or email about their claim. However, the frustrated customer felt trapped, stating: 'I can cancel my Tech Pack (I have tried before) - but if I do, I lose my overdraft facility. So basically I am trapped.' Adding to their frustration, the customer mentioned a local repair service offering a £10 cheaper repair compared to Barclays' excess charge
