Defense attorneys for the man charged with double murder in the deaths of two three-year-old boys in 2022, have filed an emergency writ to the Utah Supreme Cour

Aldana’s father passed away on July 23. A hearing was held on the 30th and at that point Aldana only attended because the judge ordered him to do so. Aldana filed an affidavit containing personal and family medical information that was privatized. Lisa Estrada, his direct supervisor told Judge Lund that he would be on leave for 8 weeks and then said he would not return until October but that he would still be lead counsel on the case.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family members have accused Aldana of engaging in delay tactics. Means told Judge Lund that the county just approved funding for a few new attorneys but that the positions had not yet been filled. Judge Lund denied the motion to continue the trial and ordered UCPDA to appoint another attorney. Aldana on leave was no longer lead counsel or on the case.
