Evelyn died in December last year
Hayley MacFarlane, 39, of Carrington Street, Barnsley, admitted the charge of infanticide as she appeared at Leeds Crown Court on Monday. MacFarlane admitted causing the death of her five-month-old daughter Evelyn MacFarlane, who died in hospital on December 20 last year.
West Yorkshire Police previously said officers arrived at the scene at the junction of Clarendon Road and Moorland Road by Woodhouse Moor Park in Leeds that day after MacFarlane had called emergency services and reported Evelyn was in a serious condition.As she appeared in court, MacFarlane was arraigned and pleaded guilty to the charge of infanticide, namely causing the death of her child by an act of smothering, at the time her mind was not recovered from the effects of birthing her.
The plea was accepted by the prosecution and Recorder of Leeds His Honour Judge Guy Kearl told MacFarlane she would next appear for a further hearing at Sheffield Crown Court before The Honourable Mrs Justice Lamber on June 13.
