, look no further than Dior, where the emphasis was firmly on the brand’s savoir faire, from immaculate masculine tailoring to hand-embroidered, 1920s-inspired flapper gowns. The latest show was inspired by Josephine Baker, the African-American singer and dancer who left the United States in the mid 1920s for the glamour of Paris.
“I like the idea of creating a collection that’s inspired by the twenties when cabaret dresses were sparkly and embroidered and glamorous, but mixing it with real life: the tailleur, the uniform. I’m a very pragmatic woman who likes clothes you can wear,” said Chiuri.She has a seasoned knack of delivering wearable clothes and a cult accessory — see the new velvet and embellished platforms that were sent down the runway with almost every look.
