For the first time ever, researchers have measured the heart rate of bats during their complete flights in the wild, providing unprecedented insights into the energetic demands and survival strategies of these elusive nocturnal creatures.
The transmitters sent out audio signals of the bats’ heartbeats, which were picked up by radio receivers. However, the researchers had to stay within a few hundred meters of the bats due to the limited range of the receivers.
