The BBC has announced changes to Radio Nottingham as the broadcaster launches new schedules on radio stations in the East Midlands. From Monday, November 6, local BBC radio stations will make significant changes.
The changes follow a decision to have a digital-led approach to local news. The move has led to criticism, with the BBC's plans likely to impact significantly on other news providers who aren't supported by a licence fee.The move to cut jobs and merge local programming has also been criticised by BBC staff. New figures show the listenership on BBC Radio Nottingham has dropped by 35% since 2021.
According to new data, following the investment into local news, online traffic to BBC Local news stories in England is up by 21% over the last three months compared to the same period last year. “We’re determined to grow the impact of local radio across the country and we’ll be looking in detail at the listening changes over the last period."
