Money expert Iona Bain detailed how single people, or those living alone, can circumvent the staggering ‘single’s tax’
A money expert joined the panel on BBC’s Morning Live on Wednesday to discuss the added cost living alone forces onto unsuspecting taxpayers. Having recently opted to move into her own place by herself, the topic came close to home for finance expert Iona Bain.
She also highlighted that not everyone is in this situation due to their own choices as the singles tax applies to people who have been divorced, separated or widowed too. She added: “Some people can’t afford it as easily, they find it really tough on their own and they’re financially struggling as a result. We know that three in five adults who are in a financially vulnerable situation are also living on their own and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
For those looking to ditch the single’s tax, Iona shared some ways they can circumvent the costs of being on your own: “ The most obvious thing you can do is get that 25% council tax reduction if you live on your own.
