BBC makes general election coverage announcement as presenters named

Rishi Sunak confirmed the general election would take place this July

The BBC has confirmed which presenters will be fronting their TV coverage on the night of the general election . Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed in a televised statement outside Number 10 that the election would take place on Thursday, July 4.

Now, Mastermind host Clive Myrie and Sunday morning political show presenter Laura Kuenssberg have been confirmed to front the BBC's coverage. The pair will be joined by BBC political editor Chris Mason and Reeta Chakrabarti on July 4.At the last election in 2019, the corporation's coverage was anchored by Huw Edwards, but he resigned from the BBC earlier this year following allegations that he paid a young person for sexually explicit photos.
