🔴 BBC salary list reveals Ken Bruce left despite pay rise – and Gary Lineker is still highest earner
A BBC “talent drain” means fewer big names feature on the list. Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel and Andrew Marr, who left to front podcasts and radio shows for BBC rival Global, are off the pay-roll.
Vanessa Feltz, who made the top 10 last year, earning £400,000 for BBC radio presenting, left to present a new show for News UK’s TalkTV. News presenter Sophie Raworth has seen her pay increase from £310,000 to £370,000. Raworth filled in presenting the BBC’s Sunday morning politics show before Laura Kuenssberg, who earned £310,000, took over the show last autumn.
Steve Wright, who lost his long-running afternoon show but continues to present on Radio 2, saw his pay fall from £450,000 to £365,000.was paid £190,000 for her final year presenting Wimbledon, less than pundit John McEnroe who received £210,000. The list excludes the TV fees paid to some of the broadcaster’s biggest-paid stars, including Claudia Winkleman and Graham Norton.Strictly Come DancingThe talent pay bill will come under close scrutiny this year given the financial difficulties the BBC faces. Around 1,000 hours of programming will be cut in order to find over £400m in annual cost savings by the end of the current charter period in 2027-28.
