The BBC Question Time panel broadcast live from Plymouth this week and saw a heated debate erupt after an audience member dismissed calls
During a fiery exchange on BBC's Question Time, which aired live from Plymouth, the topic of reparations for slavery sparked controversy. An audience member branded the idea of compensation as "ridiculous".
She went on to say: "King Charles has said that we must understand the path of history. I do think there is further acknowledgement to be made of the pain, the stain of that terrible period of history that caused so much damage to so many communities."The journalist emphasised the need for ongoing dialogue and clarified that reparations aren't solely about financial compensation: "Reparations is not just about money, it is about acknowledging what happened.
He challenged the fairness of holding current generations accountable for actions taken centuries prior: "Why should I pay for something that happened before I was alive to someone who wasn't alive then? " In response, Sheffield questioned whether he recognised the significance of the discussion, reports The Express.
