During the opening episode, which saw them begin from the north of Japan, it was revealed that there had been one major rule change – which has been described as both ‘savage’ and ‘genius’ by fans. On this year’s programme, the teams of five duos will race across 15,000 kilometres in several countries – leaving behind their smartphones, any internet access and bank cards – in the hope of winning a £20,000 cash prize.
