The last day of the festival was hit by torrential rain - but most revellers were undeterred
The last day of BBC Radio 2's Party in the Park has been hit by torrential rain today - but the party in Preston has carried on regardless, with a string of dynamic performances rocking the main stage.
Today has seen a star-studded line-up including Paul Heaton, Shed Seven, Gabrielle, Sister Sledge and the Manic Street Preachers perform in Moor Park. The festival will then be closed by a highly anticipated mammoth set by the Pet Shop Boys. It follows the first official day at the festival which saw performances by Craig David, Snow Patrol and Sugababes before being closed out by Sting. When beginning his set the veteran rockstar said:"It is so good to be back in the north of England."But he might not have echoed that sentiment today as the rain has continued all day and worsened into the evening.
There were plenty of ruined trainers and mud-splashed outfits, but spirits remained largely high, with each artist receiving a warm welcome from the crowd. And those running the festival have been eager to share their gratitude."Everyone backstage has been saying it - we so appreciate you all for staying and sticking it out in the rain," said DJ Trevor Nelson before introducing Sister Sledge.
