Strictly stars Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima chat to OK! about forming an 'unbreakable bond' and why Zara is a 'completely different person' from her Love Island days
BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Zara McDermott on 13-hour days, phone calls with Graziano’s wife and why she’s ‘not ashamed’Embracing early morning starts, hours of rehearsals every day and evenings spent watching critiques from professional partner Graziano Di Prima, the documentary presenter is giving the show everything she’s got.
“For a complete novice non-dancer like me, it’s very intense to try and get something as perfect as you possibly can,” says Zara. “I get to training just before 8am, we grab something really quick for lunch and keep going until sometimes 6, 8, 9pm. I go to sleep and repeat the next day. This is my life at the moment.”sits down with Zara and Graziano to chat all things Strictly, how they're balancing training with their love lives and the trip to Italy they'll make if they win.
“I think relationships are not always completely balanced,” she says. “Sometimes someone needs a bit more support, sometimes the other one does – and that’s how I see relationships in general to be honest. It’s all about communication, you know? You only get to do Strictly once!”As for Graziano, his pro dancer wife Giada Lini is also busy training Italian celebs. “My wife is in Rome and she does the same show in Italy,” he says.
And since surviving the Movie Week dance-off, the pair are set on going all the way in the competition. “I think it was a shock because it was one of the strongest numbers we’ve done so far,” Graziano says. “If I have to find a positive in it, I think it was the right moment to give a shock to Zara. It was a turning point.
In the few moments when Graziano and Zara aren’t dancing, you’ll find them filming TikTok videos. “She’s the queen of social media,” he says. “I’m learning so much about how she shares her thoughts about this journey with her followers, she knows what people want.”Otherwise, Zara is either eating or in the bath. “I get myself a lovely takeaway. Every single night it’s completely different.
