The One Show 's Alex Scott had to step in when co-host Clara Amfo highlighted time constraints following an interview that ran over.
Fred unfolded the tale of his cross-Channel journey, saying: "I came here when I was 20 so I've been in the UK for 32 years, which is longer than I've been in France and my love affair with the UK started when I was 14. I loved speaking in English and I was writing poetry in English and I loved the idea of living my life in English."
Turning his attention back to the book, he noted: "So the book really is about what the French think about the Brits and my adventure in the UK from the time I arrived to now. We have so many similarities but at the same time there are so many differences."
