Viewers have expressed anger at the BBC for featuring TikTok influencers and podcast personalities who spread theories about Nicola Bulley's disappearance in a new documentary about the tragedy.
BBC viewers are furious at the TikTok influencers and gossipy podcast gurus who stirred up tales about mum Nicola Bulley 's disappearance, especially as they surfaced in BBC One's heartfelt documentary about the tragedy, broadcast at 9pm on Thursday 3 October. The Search for Nicola Bulley explored the chaotic world of social media speculation and the avalanche of theories from online wannabe sleuths during the hunt for the late mother.
But, even now, some individuals continue to churn out distasteful theorising over Nicola's devastating death online - including certain TikTok trendsetters and podcast personalities who had dabbled in detective work, and popped up in the BBC feature. As the documentary played out, people expressed their fury on Twitter , criticising the choice to spotlight these individuals.
Before it aired, The Search for Nicola Bulley director Rachel Lob-levyt gave viewers a sneak peek into the documentary during an interview on BBC Breakfast last month. While discussing the film on the morning show she shared: "Whether we like it or not, it was a huge part of this case."Rachel also spoke with Radio Times about how watching the documentary felt for Nicola's family, revealing: "We had a viewing with the family. It was difficult obviously emotional for them.
In the documentary, Paul describes the day she disappeared as just another "normal" Friday morning. Nicola had left around 8:30am to drop their children off at school, taking their dog Willow along for the walk. Paul revealed that he didn't initially worry when Nicola didn't show up as expected; it only turned into genuine fear when he received a call from the children's school telling him that someone had found Willow and Nicola's phone abandoned by a bench.
