WASPI women have been waiting for payouts since March
BBC Breakfast viewers have been given a WASPI compensation update by Darren Jones, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, who appeared on the morning show on Friday. The Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign was set up after women born in the 1950s were told at short notice the age at which they could retire was going up.
Breakfast host Naga Munchetty said to Mr Jones on Friday: "You have said in the past they shouldn't have to go to court to have their voices heard and just a few days into government, you said 'we need some patience', allow you a little patience to get things moving. Where are you in terms of compensating these women?"
"The issue we have with WASPI women is that the Ombudsman had concluded that there may be a case for compensation, but it didn't conclude how you would structure the compensation, who would be eligible for what, and therefore what the cost of it would be.
