I’ve been writing about technology for two decades and am routinely struck by how the sector swings from startling innovation to persistent repetitiveness. My areas of specialty are wearable tech, cameras, home entertainment and mobile technology.

Apple has two headphone brands: AirPods and Beats . In July 2023, Apple released the fourth-generation model of Beats Studio Pro, and in a new firmware update just launched, an extra feature has been added: audio sharing. If you remember the days when audio sharing meant two pairs of earphones connected to an Walkman or—even more romantic—listening with one earbud apiece, rest assured this is nothing like that.

Here's how you do it: tap the AirPlay logo on your device when on the Now Playing screen, Lock screen or in Control Center, tap Share Audio and bring the second pair of headphones close to the iPhone or iPad. One more tap and your friend can join. The latest Beats Studio Pro already had a lot of features on board, from Active Noise Cancellation to Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking, for instance. The headphones also promised improved bass quality compared to previous models.

That list is taken from Apple’s help page and Beats Studio Pro is missing. That’s how new this update is. To work, you need firmware version 2C301, not the previous 2B68 firmware. To check which you have, go to Settings, then Bluetooth and tapping the Info button attached to Beats Studio Pro.Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations. We want our readers to share their views and exchange ideas and facts in a safe space.
