Bonnie Beck said she was mortified at the number of carrier bags she had in her home, which she said were worth 'hundreds of pounds'.

A beautician has gone viral after sharing an environmentally-friendly 'life hack' to stop using plastic bags - only to be branded "thick" for the idea and others describing it as "nonsense".

Bonnie, 33, encouraged others to "save the planet" shared a photo of two grey plastic boxes containing her weekly foodshop in the boot of her car on Facebook. Bonnie, from Nottingham, said: "I am not trying to be an eco warrior. I am just a normal person who had a little bit of an idea. "The ecological side of it aside, it's just a nifty little shopping hack. It's not about not buying carrier bags anymore. It's useful and to find it more convenient. It literally started at my car putting my shopping from my trolley into the boxes in the boot of my car. A woman walked past, stopped and said 'what a fantastic idea that is' and she was going to start doing it too.

Alongside a picture of the two boxes, her initial post said: "A random woman in ASDA car park was so impressed with how I take my shopping home I thought I'd share my idea with you all. "It must have been hundreds of pounds worth of carrier bags. I wanted to use an alternative. I drove to IKEA and got some tubs. It was a sequence of events that lead to it really."
