Harrogate in Yorkshire has been crowned the UK's top staycation spot to drive to for a holiday. It outshone other popular destinations such as Stratford-upon-Avon and Anglesey to clinch the number one position.
The trend of opting for staycations has gained momentum, particularly with the wealth of stunning locations available within the UK. In light of this, AA experts have conducted an analysis to determine the best staycation locales accessible by car. The assessment considered various factors including accommodation options, local contentment scores, availability of parking, petrol stations, and electric vehicle charging points to compile the "ultimate top 10 locations for the perfect staycation". Harrogate emerged victorious, boasting the highest 'happiness rating' at 7.8 out of 10, along with the most activities .
Stratford-upon-Avon secured the second spot with a happiness rating of 7.6, over 6,000 parking spaces, and upwards of 60 attractions. As the birthplace of Shakespeare, it provides picturesque strolls and historic landmarks like the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, reports the Manchester Evening News. Newquay in Cornwall has secured the third spot, with 326 AA-approved accommodations, over 3,500 parking spaces, and a happiness rating of 7.5. Anglesey, which is approximately a two-hour drive from Manchester, ranked ninth.
