Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is introducing new multi-modal passes for Bee Network bus and Metrolink tram travel, alongside a 'tap-in, tap-out' payment system, designed to simplify and enhance the public transportation experience.

Bee Network bus and Metrolink tram tickets are set for a significant change from March as Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) officials confirmed the introduction of new 'multi-modal' passes. These innovative tickets will empower passengers to purchase a single ticket encompassing both tram and bus travel, available on a monthly or annual basis. The cost of these passes is expected to be as low as £2.75 per day.

To enhance accessibility, passengers will have the option to spread the cost of annual multi-modal tickets, which start at £1,000, through a Credit Union, making convenient weekly or monthly repayments. The new passes will become available on March 23rd, coinciding with the launch of the Bee Network's 'tap-in, tap-out' system. This system will enable passengers to scan a bank card or mobile phone at a Metrolink platform or onboard a Bee Network bus, and be charged the lowest fare at the end of the day. These developments follow the recent implementation of the 'hopper' bus ticket, which allows passengers to utilize as many buses as desired within one hour of paying a single fare. The overarching aim of these changes is to simplify public transportation usage, according to Vernon Everitt, the transport commissioner for Greater Manchester. Everitt stated: 'These are the latest steps in a continuous program of work to deliver better and more integrated public transport through the Bee Network for the people and businesses of Greater Manchester. These new fares and simple 'tap and go' payment, with daily and weekly fare caps, are making public transport more convenient and affordable and are core to our aim of encouraging more people to use our services.
