We caught up with Charlie to discuss band life, their influences and their favourite spot for food pre-gig ahead of their biggest show yet

In February 2022 Queens Student Radio asked me to come and perform as part of their local original music night. So obviously, the first person I call is Aodhan. We’re absolutely buzzing and go out on the beer to celebrate a gig we haven’t even played yet. But then we realise we don’t have a bassist. For context, we were 16/17 with no money and hadn’t met anyone in the music scene, so a professional bassist was off the cards.
message on Instagram asking if we need one. Truth be told when it came down to meeting him, we were very nervous as he was a professional musician, and we were some kids in Aodhan’s attic. By the end of the session, we had forgotten Calvin was never in the band to begin with. He slotted right in. From then on is when Moonboot really started to take off.Aodhan used to break his ankle all the time from skating when we were younger, so he’d always have one of those big ankle braces on.
I think we’ve felt every emotion under the sun about this show. We’ve been working so hard to make this more than just a local gig, our sound is bigger than it’s ever been. There were moments when I didn’t think we would be able to pull it off, but I’m so proud of what we have been able to achieve and all the hard work everyone involved has put in. It’s going to be our best performance yet.
