The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Micky Murray, has hailed what he called Belfast Pride’s "vital economic role" as he attends a second week of events as part of the city’s biggest cross-community festival.
He helped employees put the finishing touches to a nature-themed display, celebrating the city’s parks and open spaces and the contribution they make towards physical and mental health – tying in with this year’s "Love Your Mind" festival theme. “Every year, the event gets bigger and better and, this year, the council is pleased to have supported the festival as part of our Belfast 2024 city-wide creative and cultural celebration, enabling local creatives from the LGBTQIA+ community to get involved in additional events and workshops.”
2 Royal Avenue will also host a drop-in event on Thursday afternoon , from 12.30pm, where members of the public can borrow the Lord Mayor for a brief chat about his experience as the city’s first openly gay First Citizen – just one of the so-called 'books’ included in a Living Library event, organised by HERe NI.
