Defence solicitor Keith Gamble said his client decided not to dispute some of the allegations because it would “make a bad situation worse”.
Prosecutors said Cormac Copeland also banged the victim’s head off the floor during a drunken attack at their home in north Belfast. The 23-year-old, of Brompton Park, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The victim told police Copeland banged his head on the floor and kicked him about the ribs until he lost consciousness. He claimed that when he came round again his son was biting him about the head. District Judge George Conner was told that Copeland’s father had threatened to throw him out of the house amid issues about the company he was keeping.
Jailing Copeland for five months, Judge Conner ruled: “I’m of the view that the complaint merits a custodial sentence.”
