A new pizza haven is about to open its doors on Belfast 's bustling Ormeau Road , promising to satisfy cravings with its unique sourdough creations. Charlie's , the brainchild of former pop-up vendor The Pi Guy , is set to take over a ground-floor restaurant unit in the Curzon Building, right beside the popular Errigle Inn. Marty Duggan, the founder of The Pi Guy , started his culinary journey in 2018, crafting his signature sourdough pizzas in his back garden.
The pizzas quickly gained a devoted following, especially after Pi Guy's Trademarket stall on Dublin Road became a viral sensation. With Trademarket's closure last summer, anticipation grew for Pi Guy's next move. Last month, Duggan fueled the buzz by posting a picture of keys on his social media pages, hinting at a permanent location on the Ormeau Road. The new Charlie's signage, proclaiming 'Pizza's New Address' and 'Pizza by the slice', confirms the rumors. Social media channels for Charlie's suggest a Spring 2025 opening, with the website stating 'Your neighbourhood pizzeria opening March 2025'. Charlie's will carry on The Pi Guy's legacy of hand-making their naturally leavened dough, which undergoes a meticulous 72-hour fermentation process. Duggan's dedication to quality earned him a spot on The Times' '50 Best Pizza Places in the UK' list last year, solidifying his reputation as a pizza maestro.
