A South Belfast primary school has celebrated the opening of its new living bike shelter as it develops new and creative ways of encouraging pupils to walk and cycle to school.

The bike shelter was officially opened on Thursday, November 17, by South Belfast MP Claire Hanna and the school's eco-council, which is made up of elected representatives from each class who have a say in the schools environmental policies. "It also gets you into a really good mood when you arrive at school after you have started the day with a bit of exercise."

Jenny Fletcher, eco-coordinator at Knockbreda Primary School, said that they were very pleased to open their new bike shelter and thanked the Department for Infrastructure for their support. "We are currently running our very popular Bling Your Bike to School project that has got a lot of the children involved and they are all very excited to show off what they have done with their bikes and scooters.
