The West Belfast man's devastated family have urged others not to ignore any symptoms

The sister of a West Belfast man who passed away two months ago from an acute Strep A infection has urged others not to ignore the symptoms.

The man's grieving sister told Belfast Live: "My brother was just 38 when he passed away. He had complained of a sore throat on Wednesday, December 14 so he went to the pharmacy to get advice. His sister continued: "The doctors had been doing various tests for coronavirus and Strep A. He was very poorly and was struggling to breathe.

"He arrived at the Royal Victoria Hospital in the early hours of Saturday. We then got the results of tests - he had tested negative for Covid but positive for Strep A. She added: "We were told this was the most stable he had been and to go and do anything we needed to do. Suddenly we got a call early on the morning of Monday, December 19 to come to the hospital as he was in cardiac arrest and unfortunately there was no more they could do.
