The horrific incident unfolded in the Belgian capital ahead of Monday night's international match
Belgium's Euro 2024 qualifier match against Sweden was abandoned tonight after two people were shot dead in Brussels.
Supporters were asked to stay inside the stadium for their own safety, with the gunman still at large. "Due to the incidents in Brussels earlier tonight, play is suspended," said a message on Belgium's official account on X/twitter. "Our thoughts are with all those affected." "We will return when the Belgian authorities provide us with new information. Keep calm and take care of each other. Our thoughts go out to all the relatives of those affected in Brussels."
A UEFA statement later confirmed that "following a suspected terrorist attack in Brussels", the game was abandoned "after consultation with the two teams and the local police authorities".
