t’s a sign of how preposterously hot it is on the day I meet Bella Freud that she is not wearing socks. Over the years I have never not seen the designer in her signature socks-and-sandals combination, the latter — just so you are clear — usually peak fashionista, some fabulous platform-y iteration in velvet or some such. I have to confess that I am disappointed that she is in flip-flops. Albeit offset with star-spangled chiffon.
