San Antonio's original Half Price Books location closes Sunday after 45 years in business. Customers and staff share memories.
Back in 1994 when Richie Otis was a kid, the San Antonian would ride his bike through the Brackenridge Park area to the Half Price Books at 3207 Broadway , a quirky 1½-story oasis of secondhand books and squeaky wooden floors. The yellow building with the brown checkerboard accents welcomed him from its rear parking lot entrance off Avenue B , a stray cat or two curled by the door like a lazy sentry.

Antiquarian owner Bob Kellel sold the buildings that house the respective stores to San Antonio real estate developer Harper/Huddleston Inc.
