The Northampton Heathens have a rich history within the town
A beloved local rugby club in the heart of Northampton is celebrating its official 100th year - though the club itself is said to be much older.
Rev Wigg requested that all of the players regularly attended church. This created a divide and, as the story goes, the non-churchgoers formed their own team called the Heathens while the churchgoers became the Northampton Saints. Craig Wilson, the club manager, said: "It’s great for the boys to be part of a special centenary season for this rugby club. The Heathens are a huge part of the local community here in Northampton and there is a great team spirit among the squad, there always has been.
