EXCLUSIVE: Rugby ace Ben Foden and his US-born wife Jackie reveal to OK! that they are expecting their second child together, after going through three devastating miscarriages
Ben and Jackie Foden have some seriously happy news to share. Three years on from the arrival of their daughter Farrah –“We’re so excited about a second baby,” says US-born Jackie, who is now in her second trimester. “We’re using this as our grand announcement – we’ve only told those who are really close to us.”
But it appears that no matter where the family are in the world – New York, Connecticut, or even England, visiting Ben’s two older children, Aoife, 11, and eight-year-old Tadgh – they’ll always have a beaming smile on their faces. But Ben stresses that most of the credit goes to Jackie, who explains the emotional agony and turmoil her body went through. “It’s a lot for your body to get pregnant four times in one year – it’s hard,” she explains. “The first pregnancy got to around seven or eight weeks, and the others were much earlier, so that’s why we wanted to wait to make sure everything was OK with this one. Plus, with my age, a lot of things can go wrong.
“She knows all of my faults in the past, all the nitty-gritty. And I know everything about her. We’re best friends and our relationship works well because of that.” But while Ben and Una now have things well in hand when it comes to co-parenting, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the pair. “We do have lots of name choices to hand, though,” Jackie reveals. “With Farrah, we knew she was going to be Farrah right away, but we’re a little indecisive this time,” she adds. “We like Ford for a boy, or Sebastian or Lazarus. For a girl, we love Olympia or Octavia.”Whatever name they choose, there’s no doubt that after such a rocky road leading up to the baby’s arrival, their new son or daughter will be showered with love.
“I’ll definitely want Ben in the room,” she tells us. “He filmed the last birth and watched me getting stitched back up, so he’s seen it all before.”
