Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor, who separated in 2017 after 17 years of marriage, have revealed how time apart and the pandemic brought them back together. Stiller credits the separation for providing clarity and allowing them to appreciate their family unit more deeply.

Ben Stiller has opened up about his reconciliation with wife Christine Taylor after a period of separation. The couple, who were married for 17 years before taking time apart in 2017, reunited during the COVID-19 pandemic when Stiller moved in with Taylor to co-parent their two children, Ella and Quinlin. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Stiller explained that the separation allowed them both to gain clarity on their relationship and individual needs.

He stated, 'When we separated, it was just having space to see what our relationship was, what my life felt like when we weren't in that relationship, how much I loved our family unit.' While they were apart for three or four years, Stiller emphasized that they remained connected throughout. He admitted, 'In my mind, I never didn't want us to be together.' The pandemic brought them back together in their shared family home, which ultimately sparked their reconciliation.Stiller described the experience as 'almost a year of living in the same house before we were actually together' again. The time spent living together during the pandemic proved beneficial for their relationship. Stiller previously told Esquire in 2022, 'We were separated and got back together and we're happy about that.' He added, 'It's been really wonderful for all of us. Unexpected, and one of the things that came out of the pandemic.' Stiller further elaborated on his evolving perspective on marriage, comparing it to his newfound appreciation for horses. He stated, 'A few years ago, I realized I don't like horseback riding. If there's an opportunity to go horseback riding, I'm probably not going to do it. Now, I like horses! I think they're beautiful. I like petting them.' He continued, 'I like watching people ride horses, I like watching my kids ride horses. I just don't really love riding horses. And once you know that, it just saves a lot of energy.' Stiller believes that accepting differences within a relationship is crucial for a strong bond. He explained, 'So, yeah, I think we have a respect for the ways that we're similar and the ways we're different. And I think accepting that, you can really appreciate someone more because you're not trying to get them to change for you. Once you accept that, you save a lot of energy. ''This is something that works for me; this is something that doesn't work for me.' If you have that trust level with your partner, you know that me saying 'I don't like doing that thing' is not me saying 'I don't like you.'' This newfound understanding and communication have strengthened their relationship, leading to a happy and fulfilling reunion.
