The outdoor seat, which began life as a couple's first bed, is given a new lease of life.
A bench which holds special memories for a family has been restored by an expert on the BBC TV show, The Repair Shop. The bench was looking weather-worn and had become seriously unstable.Mr Cox and Ms Willis bought the bed 30 years ago, and it holds important memories for them.
They brought their premature son Ade home from hospital to the bed, and their youngest daughter, Freya, was born on it. They could not let go of the bed so they used their creative talents to recycle it into a garden bench. They contacted the popular Repair Shop programme, presented by Jay Blades, and Mr Kirk was assigned to the job of restoring it.Mr Kirk was invited to be one of the programme's experts after restoring a bench for a member of the production team.Mr Kirk dismantled the Willis-Cox family's bench to assess which bits could be kept and which would need to be replaced.
He found that the legs needed extensive strengthening work, so the wood went on to the lathe and a whole new set of feet was carved. Mr Kirk then sorted out the mortise and tenon joints so the bench would stay together for generations to come.Police to continue anti-motorcycle nuisance schemeChildminder remanded over race hate charge
