Darren Bent has suggested that Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse would always make the England squad if he played for Manchester United., believing the Three Lions boss calls up players based on who they are on the books at.The Southampton midfielder has been limited to just 11 caps for the Three Lions
Ward-Prowse has mustered just 11 caps for the Three Lions since making his debut in 2017, despite establishing himself as one of England’s most consistent performers in the Premier League.has chipped in with eight goals and three assists from 34 matches this season, but was once again overlooked – just as he was for the World Cup.And ex-Tottenham striker Bent has hit out at Southgate’s decisions for England’s upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine.
Explaining why Ward-Prowse may get overlooked due to playing for the Saints, Bent added: “You get some England managers, and I didn’t think Gareth Southgate was like this, but you get some England managers that feel like if you’re at a big club, that you’re going to be the better player. “‘Even if you’re not fit, I’d rather take a chance on him who is 60 per cent playing at Man City that someone is 100 per cent playing at Southampton.'”Pressed on what would happen if Ward-Prowse was at Man United, Bent replied: “He’d be in every single squad, 100 per cent.Get £25 for Cheltenham when you bet 5 x £5 –18+ New customers only.
