Ernesto’s maximum sustained winds are 100 mph, making it a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. “Swells generated by Ernesto are affecting portions of the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Bahamas, and Bermuda. Swells are expected to spread up the east coast of the United States today and continue into the weekend, and could reach portions of Atlantic Canada by late Saturday,” the NHC said Friday. “These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.”The U.S. territories of Puerto Rico and the U.S.

Nearly 10 inches of rain fell in Naguabo, while the community of Barran picked up over 8 inches. More than a half-foot of rain also fell in Juncos, Villaba and Vieques.
