Kasey Anderson's dad agonises over his broken "first promise" to his son after he was stabbed to death by his girlfriend.
"Since that day I have lost myself, my family is broken into a million pieces. My family will never get over this. "I spent three weeks begging him to pull through and come home. I never dreamed in a million years that he would be taken away from us in such a violent way. "She will not walk into her bedroom to find him with the hairdryer on in bed, getting warm. She won’t have the extra roast dinner to make, she won’t have extra washing to put on."Kasey’s friends are broken. There is a missing piece in their group, a missing laugh that won’t mix in with their group any more."They won’t share his laughs when he’s telling a story, laughing so hard that he can’t finish.
He was later found to have suffered superficial slash wounds to his neck, right shoulder, lower back and left forearm, as well as a "shallow" stab wound to his right lower leg. But Mr Anderson had also sustained a "deep stab wound" to his chest, which damaged his left lung and heart. When officers arrived, she again alleged that he had arrived at her home "like that" and claimed that the first time she had seen him that evening was when she heard him banging on her next door neighbour's home. Bennett would subsequently give no comment to detectives under interview.
She stated that had aimed a blow with the blade "just once", after which Mr Anderson was "just shouting his mouth off" and they "ended up outside for some reason". Her defence counsel Stanley Reiz KC asked: "What were you intending to do?""I loved him. I still do."I still love him. Not one day goes past where I’m not hurting inside thinking of him.
"There is no doubt that affected her behaviour. Kasey Anderson and Ms Bennett would often get on when they were sober, but as they went on to take drink and drugs it escalated. On this occasion, it led to tragic circumstances.
