Scammers are also out there now, pretending to be accountants offering unusually high tax refunds a exceptionally low prices. Those are simply too good to be true. Nachtigal says take your search for a CPA offline. “Getting a phone call that says it’s from the IRS? That’s scary. That’s going to make you want to pick up and listen, and if they’re saying ‘There’s something wrong. You owe so much money. We’re coming after you.’ that’s scary stuff,” said Nachtigal.
