Bexar County Commissioners have decided to double the capacity of a new animal shelter being built on the Southwest Side, from 48 kennels to 96 kennels. The county plans to open the shelter in fall 2025 and continue operating its current facility on the Northeast Side. The expansion comes as the county struggles to handle the large number of stray and roaming dogs in the area.
